Hello! I'm Mic Knight.
I was introduced to the power of video as a means of communication while working towards my graduate degree in art. Today, as a professional videographer, I use my technical knowledge of video production and my education in the aesthetics of art to produce video tape that is both informative and evocative.
I use the mini digital video format because the smaller size of
mini DV cameras allow me to literally "shoot from the hip," moving around easily and quickly. Larger cameras may require cumbersome tripods. Precious time and images may be lost while the operator sets and resets them.
By using mini DV cameras, I have the physical freedom to capture spontaneous and fleeting action and images. Because mini DV cameras are so small and unobtrusive, photographic subjects often forget they are being filmed.
This allows me to capture the greater level of honest, emotional content that I strive for in my work.
Although I always keep my client's preferences in
mind, particularly if they need a specific style of camera work, my personal preference is to shoot documentary style. Nothing, after all, is more fascinating, compelling and entertaining than real life.
I have worked hard to develop my skills for editing "in the camera," meaning I choose my shots with care for continuity as well as content. A wedding video, for instance, that is edited in the camera, will show a logical timeline of the days events, while capturing their emotional honesty.
